How To: Set Up Payment Installments through Afterpay and Clearpay

Afterpay provides your customers in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States a way to split purchases over four installments. Your customer only pays the first installment at purchase time. You are immediately paid in full and Afterpay collects the remaining installments from your customer over time. 

 

Stripe accounts in the following countries can accept Afterpay payments with local currency settlement:

United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, Ireland, New Zealand

 

NOTE: In order for Payment Installments to work on your website, you have to use Stripe as your Merchant.
You can accept payments from customers in the same country that you registered your Stripe account in. Payments must also match the local currency of the country. Review the default transaction limits for the country.

Transaction fees

 

Afterpay's processing fee is 6% of the order total, plus $0.30. To accept Afterpay, you must enable Stripe, and Afterpay's fee includes the Stripe processing fee.

 

Setting Up Payment Installments

 

Step 1. From your Site manager, navigate to the Site Settings section:

Step 2: Next, make sure you are on the Shopping Cart tab, and then the Info tab

Step 3. You have to make sure that you have 'Stripe' or 'Stripe with 3D' set up as your merchant. If you use Authorize as your merchant, you will not be able to offer Payment Installments to your buyers

Step 4. To fully set up your Stripe payment gateway, you will need to add your Secret Key and your Publishable Key and then click Save. If you are not sure how to do that, follow the instructions on How To: Set Up Stripe as a Payment Method, and if you need to add the Publishable Key, follow the instructions here.

Step 5. Scroll down to the section labeled 'Payment Installments - Stripe With Afterpay / Clearpay'. Make sure that the Available toggle is set to Yes.

NOTE: If you do not see this section, it means you have not added your Publishable key yet. Go back to Step 4 and complete adding your Stripe Publishable Key. Once saved, Payment Installments - Stripe With Afterpay / Clearpay' section we appear.

Step 6. Lastly, make sure to click the blue Save button at the bottom right

Now your customers will be able to choose Afterpay as a payment option while checking out on your website.
